Relackout

Fixture library and OFL import

Build your fixture library by importing an OFL folder or defining every channel yourself — create the Demo Venue rig step by step.

Chapters

Before you can patch a fixture in Relackout, it has to exist in your library first. The library belongs to the workspace: models you add in Demo Venue only show up here. There are two ways to add one: bulk-import ready-made models from the Open Fixture Library (OFL), or define your own fixture channel by channel. This guide walks through both — first importing an OFL folder, then defining the Demo Venue rig’s three models (LED PAR RGBW, Moving Head Spot, LED Strobe) yourself.

Open the fixture library

  1. Open Settings from the home screen.

Home screen with the Settings button highlighted.
  2. Click Fixture Library in Settings.

Fixture Library screen; My Library tab selected, no categories or fixtures yet.

Import an OFL folder

  1. Click Import from Folder in the top row of buttons.

Import Fixtures from Folder dialog; description text and the Load from folder button.
  1. Click Load from folder in the dialog.

Import completed; Fixtures 4 added 0 skipped, Categories 2 added 0 skipped.
  2. Click Close in the dialog.

Library list with the American Dj and Chauvet Dj categories added, both collapsed.

Check the imported channel roles

Each manufacturer became a category. It’s worth checking which roles an imported model’s channels arrived with: if an OFL role isn’t in the edit dialog’s standard list, that channel’s role shows up as “Custom…”. The model still works; the role itself decides which control the channel gets in Fixture Control.

  1. Click the Chauvet Dj category to expand it.

Chauvet Dj category open; SlimPAR Pro RGBA and Intimidator Spot 110 rows.
  2. Type “Slim” into the search box.

Search Slim; only the Chauvet Dj category and its SlimPAR Pro RGBA row remain.
  3. Clear the search box; hover over the SlimPAR Pro RGBA row and click Edit.

Edit fixture dialog; Mode list shows 4-channel (4 ch) selected, all four channels set to Custom.
  4. Select “10-channel (10 ch)” from the Mode list.

Channel list now has 10 rows; Dimmer is dimmer, Red Green Blue Amber Color Macros are Custom.
  5. Click Cancel.

Dialog closed, back on the library list; SlimPAR Pro RGBA still shows 10 CH, 3 modes.

Create your own category

  1. Click New category in the top row of buttons.

New category dialog; Parent category (optional) and an empty Category name field.
  2. Type “Demo Venue” into Category name; click Create.

Library list; Demo Venue category now sits between American Dj and Chauvet Dj, still empty.
  3. Click the Demo Venue category to expand it.

Demo Venue category open; no fixtures yet.

Define your own LED PAR: 5 channels

  1. Click New fixture; pick Demo Venue from the Category (optional) list; type “LED PAR RGBW” into Model.

New fixture dialog; Category Demo Venue, Model LED PAR RGBW, Label empty.
  2. Set Channel count to 5.

Channel list down to 5 rows, roles still default dimmer.
  3. Name the channels in order: 1 Dimmer, 2 Red, 3 Green, 4 Blue, 5 White; set channel 2’s role to “red”, 3 to “green”, 4 to “blue”, 5 to “white” (channel 1 is already “dimmer”).

5 channels named with roles dimmer, red, green, blue, white.
  4. Click Add to library.

New row in the Demo Venue category: LED PAR RGBW 5 CH.

Define your own moving head: custom role and pan/tilt

  1. Click New fixture; pick Demo Venue as the category; type “Moving Head Spot” into Model; set Channel count to 8.

New fixture dialog; Category Demo Venue, Model Moving Head Spot, Channel count 8.
  2. Name the channels in order: Pan, Pan fine, Tilt, Tilt fine, Dimmer, Shutter, Color, Gobo. The channel list scrolls; the image shows channels 3–8.

Channel list scrolled; channels 3–8 named Tilt, Tilt fine, Dimmer, Shutter, Color, Gobo, roles still default dimmer.
  3. Set roles: channel 1 “pan”, 2 “pan_fine”, 3 “tilt”, 4 “tilt_fine” (channel 5 is already “dimmer”); set channel 6 to “shutter”.

First six channel roles: pan, pan_fine, tilt, tilt_fine, dimmer, shutter.
  4. For channel 7 (Color), choose Custom… from the role list; type “color_wheel” into the box that appears.

Row 7's role is Custom, with color_wheel typed in the box next to it.
  5. Set channel 8’s (Gobo) role to “gobo”.

    Row 8's role is gobo.
  6. Click Add to library.

Demo Venue category now has two rows: the new Moving Head Spot 8 CH on top, LED PAR RGBW 5 CH below.

Define your own strobe: the multiple mode option

  1. Click New fixture; pick Demo Venue as the category; type “LED Strobe” into Model; set Channel count to 2.

New fixture dialog; Category Demo Venue, Model LED Strobe, Channel count 2.
  2. Name the channels: 1 Dimmer, 2 Rate; set channel 2’s role to “strobe”.

Two channels: Dimmer with role dimmer, Rate with role strobe.
  3. Click Add to library.

Demo Venue category filled with three rows: LED Strobe, Moving Head Spot, LED PAR RGBW.

Move the library to another workspace

The library belongs to the workspace: models you define in Demo Venue don’t show up in another venue’s workspace. If you want the same models there, use Export in the top row of buttons to save your library to a file, then Import it back in the other workspace.

What’s next

Your library now holds both the ready-made OFL models and your own Demo Venue rig: LED PAR RGBW, Moving Head Spot and LED Strobe. Next, connect these models to a DMX address — Patching and the address map walks through it step by step.
