Cue lists

Record a chase as a cue list, set each step's fade and delay, and play it as a loop, once, or step by step with GO.

A Scene holds a single look. A cue list, on the other hand, is several steps that play in order; each step has its own look and its own timing — a fade, a delay and a duration. In this guide, you’ll record a chase live as a cue list, edit its steps, and play the list as a loop, as a one-shot, or step by step with the GO button.

What is a cue list?

  1. Open Cue Stacks on the home screen.

Cue Stacks screen, empty; No cue list yet message visible.

As the message says, you record a cue list live, just like a Scene; the only difference is that you record more than one step.

Record a chase: Dance Chase

  1. Go to Fixture Control; click Clear.

Fixture Control screen; no device selected, all live values at zero.
  2. In the device list on the left, check Front 1–4 and Back 1–2; click the “100%” button under Intensity.

Six boxes checked in the device list; Intensity at one hundred percent.
  3. Click Record in the top bar; pick the Red box; click + Step.

Record tool active with a 1 step counter; the Red color box selected.
  4. Pick the Blue box; click + Step.

Record tool showing a 2 step counter; the Blue color box selected.
  5. Pick the Magenta box; click + Step.

Record tool showing a 3 step counter; the Magenta color box selected.
  6. Click the check-mark (✓) icon; in the Save recording dialog that opens, type “Dance Chase” into Name.

Save recording dialog; 'Save as cue list (3 steps).' note, Name field filled with Dance Chase.

The cue list editor

  1. Click Save in the dialog; click Back; click the Cue Stacks card; select Dance Chase on the left.

Cue Stacks screen; Dance Chase selected, with a 3 step(s) · Fade: 500ms · Loop summary underneath.

In the top right of the screen are the Play mode buttons: Once, Loop and Step-by-step. At the top of the right-hand panel are the list’s Default fade (ms) value and the All durations (ms) field, which changes every step’s duration at once. In the table, each step has its own Fade (ms), Delay (s) and Duration (ms). At the bottom are the transport buttons: Back, Pause and GO.

Add a step

  1. Click Add empty step; in the dialog that opens, pick the LED PAR RGBW type tab under Fixture controls; click “100%” under Intensity and the Cyan box under Color; click Save.

The newly added fourth step row in the table.

Play it as a loop

  1. Click GO.

Row 1 marked ACTIVE; a Cue 1 / 4 counter at the bottom center; the button now reads Next.

In loop mode, the list jumps back to the start after the last step and keeps playing until you stop it.

Per-step fade and delay

  1. Type 500 into All durations (ms); click Apply; click Save at the top.

All four steps' Duration (ms) column now reads 500; the list keeps playing.
  2. Type 0 into step 1’s Fade (ms); click Save.

Row 1's Fade cell reads 0; the other rows show a dash.

One-shot mode

  1. While it’s playing, click Once in the top right.

Mode marked Once; the list finished this pass and stopped, status reads Stopped.
  2. Click Loop in the top right.

Mode marked Loop again; the list is still stopped.

Once mode is saved the moment you pick it, but it doesn’t stop the list right away — it finishes this pass and fades out with the last step’s fade. It’s ideal for an opening hit or an effect that should only run once. Press GO again, and the list plays one more pass, then stops again.

Build a step-by-step list: Theater Flow

  1. Click the Back arrow in the top left; click the Fixture Control card; click Clear; select Front 1–4, click “100%” under Intensity and the Warm white box under Color; click Record, then + Step.

Record tool showing a 1 step counter; the four Front fixtures selected, the Warm white box selected.
  2. Also select Back 1–2 (now all six PARs are selected); click the Blue box; click + Step.

Record tool showing a 2 step counter; all six PARs selected, the Blue box selected.
  3. Click Clear; click + Step.

Clear highlighted; the Record tool shows a 3 step counter.
  4. Click the check-mark (✓) icon; type “Theater Flow” into Name.

Save recording dialog; 'Save as cue list (3 steps).' note, Name field filled with Theater Flow.
  5. Click Save in the dialog; click Back; click the Cue Stacks card; select Theater Flow on the left.

Cue Stacks screen; Theater Flow selected, at the top of the list.
  6. Click Step-by-step in the top right.

    Mode marked Step-by-step.
  7. Type 5000 into All durations (ms); click Apply.

All three steps' Duration (ms) column now reads 5000.
  8. Type 3000 into step 1’s Fade (ms), 2000 into step 2’s, 4000 into step 3’s; type 2 into step 3’s Delay (s); click Save at the top.

    Fade column reads 3000 / 2000 / 4000; row 3's Delay column reads 2.

Play it with manual GO

  1. Click GO.

Step 1 has come up over three seconds; counter reads Cue 1 / 3; the button now reads Next.
  2. Click Next.

The change to blue has completed over two seconds; counter reads Cue 2 / 3.
  3. Click Next; wait two seconds, then watch the four-second fade to black.

After the delay, the fade to black is underway; counter reads Cue 3 / 3.
  4. Click Back.

The blue step has been called back; step 2 is active again.
  5. Click Pause.

Status reads Stopped; no row is active; the button reads GO again.

Theater Flow fader at zero, faded out; Dance Chase still playing.
  7. Bring the Dance Chase fader back up to ~85%; select Default (1–512) from the layout selector.

Channel view; the PARs' red/green/blue channel values are changing with the chase.
  8. Click Clear.

Chase stopped, all channels at zero.
