Relackout

Everyday use in a bar or club

Open tonight's workspace, start music with automatic reactive light, run a few scenes from a phone, then blackout and stop.

This is what a regular night looks like once everything is already patched and configured: open up, start the music with light that reacts on its own, hand a few scene buttons to a staff member’s phone, and close down at the end of the shift. Each stop along the way links to the page that covers it in depth, so this guide only shows how the pieces fit together in one evening.

Opening: open the workspace, check the outputs

  1. Click the workspace switcher (Demo Venue) at the bottom right. The list that opens confirms Demo Venue is active, and that Studio B also exists.

Workspace switcher open at the bottom right, Demo Venue marked active above Studio B; behind it the Dashboard's output status column shows Art-Net connected, sACN off, USB DMX not connected, and Remote Access off.

Green means connected, gray means off, and amber on USB DMX just means nothing is plugged in — this venue runs on Art-Net alone, so that’s expected every night. For what each output option means and how to configure it, see DMX output: Art-Net, sACN and USB-DMX. Switching workspaces stops the output and restarts the app, so it’s a start-of-night move, not something you do mid-set — see Workspaces.

Start the music, put the lights on autopilot

The full tour of tracks, categories and playlists lives on Music Library and playlists; here you’re just starting a playlist that’s already built.

  1. Click Music Library on the Dashboard.

Music Library screen; Night Shift and Peak Hour in the Tracks list in the middle, and the highlighted Opening Playlist row (2 tracks) in the Playlists panel on the right; the header status badge reads Stopped.
  2. Click Play on the Opening Playlist row.

The highlighted button on the Opening Playlist row has switched to pause; the first track, Night Shift, is playing (its row is highlighted) and the header status badge now reads Playing.

With music running, point the lights at it instead of programming a look by hand.

  1. Click Back, then click Sound Reactive on the Dashboard.

Sound-Reactive Light screen; Enabled switch off, band meters already moving in gray because the music is playing, Source already set to App music, no mappings yet; the Add mapping button is highlighted.
  2. Click Add mapping; in the new row, pick All PARs from Group (Band and Target already default to Bass and Dimmer).

New mapping row: the highlighted Group field shows All PARs, Target Dimmer, Band Bass, color swatch disabled (only active for an RGB target); a Save button has appeared above.
  3. Click Save.

The Save button has disappeared; the persisted mapping row is highlighted.
  4. Turn on the Enabled switch at the top.

Enabled switch on; the band meters now light up blue and move with the track, the Default preset shows 1 mapping, and no 'no signal' warning appears since music is already playing.

Recalling scenes from the phone

  1. Go back to the home screen, then click Settings.

General Settings scrolled to Remote Access; the highlighted Remote Access card shows the switch off, PIN 1234, Port 3847 and Server off.
  2. Turn on the Remote Access switch.

Remote Access switch on; Server on status, an access address badge and a Quick access via phone (QR code) image appear below.

A staff member scans that QR code (or types the address and PIN) on their phone once; after that it stays connected. The full pairing walkthrough — QR, PIN, what Chrome vs. Safari changes — is on Remote control from your phone. From here on, assume the phone is already connected and showing the Main Panel.

  1. (on the phone) Tap the Blue Night button.

Remote screen on a phone held in landscape: four scene buttons, two cue buttons and a MASTER fader; the Blue Night button now shows pressed.
  2. (on the phone) Also tap the Red Pulse button.

On the phone's remote screen, Blue Night and Red Pulse both show pressed at the same time; the scenes merge.

Closing: blackout and stop

  1. On the main station (desktop), click LIVE CONTROL.

Live Control screen with the Main Panel layout; in the highlighted buttons, Blue Night and Red Pulse already show pressed, carried over from the phone.
  2. Click Blackout.

Blackout button engaged (solid red); the output is forced dark even though the scene buttons still show pressed.
  3. Click Clear.

Blue Night and Red Pulse no longer show pressed, and the Blackout button is back to its outlined look: Clear released the blackout too.
  4. Go back to Music Library, then click Stop.

Music Library screen; the highlighted Stop button has been clicked and the status badge reads Stopped again.

You can leave Sound-to-Light’s Enabled switch on overnight — once the music stops, the band meters settle on their own and the light fades out over the release time. Tomorrow’s opening routine starts the same way, from the top of this page.
